Monticello Motor Club, located a short 90-minute drive from Manhattan in Monticello, New York, promises to be a mecca for automotive enthusiasts who also relish the good life between taking their turns on the track. “Our club blends performance and lifestyle in way that is unique,” says Jason Bannerman, MMC’s director of business development. “We offer a safe and controlled environment, but our track was specially designed so our members can push themselves to the limit.”

The list of members already include NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon and comedian Jerry Seinfeld, a renowned car enthusiast, and many other Fortune 100 executives, but the membership roster is also open to a select few. “We have chosen to limit the number to 500 members, so they will fully enjoy this exclusive experience, and get as much track time as they want,” says Bannerman. “Our members are also some of the wealthiest car owners in the world, so they will enjoy the five-star experience inside the rest of the club.”

The soul of the club is the racetrack, designed by preeminent track architect Bruce Hawkins and race legend Brian Redman. The 4.1-mile course, set on 175 wooded acres of undulating terrain, includes over 1.5 miles of straights—some of the longest in North America—as well as 22 turns, including hairpins, increasing- and decreasing-radius turns. Hawkins also made good use of the elevation changes to add an extra level of thrill to the driving, but he included grand corners in the style of great European tracks.

“We’ve organized it so the track is capable of operating as three independent circuits that can run simultaneously,” says Bannerman. “There are also a dozen possible configurations that it can be like coming to a new venue every time.”

The complex also includes two separate pit facilities and a skid-pad area. “This course will be among the best in the world, with turns and challenges that will excite drivers of all levels,” says Redman, who has won 77 races in 12 countries.

But Bannerman notes that the club was established to cater to all types of drivers. “The majority of our members are people who don’t have any aspirations towards professional racing,” he says. “They just want to get out and explore the limits of their own cars.” Or one can choose to drive the club’s exotics, a list that includes Ferraris, Ford GTs, Lotus 211s, and vintage Formula 1 cars, available for rental.

For those looking to increase their driving skills, the club maintains a group of elite professional driving instructors, who offer classroom instruction, and then ride shotgun in one’s own car or in one of the exotics. The track’s scheduled touring sessions also provide enough space between the cars to focus on skill development and proper track habits.

Most of the time, however, is Open Track, where speed is unrestricted, so drivers can push their cars to their limits. The club also has regular Time Trials, where members race against the clock.

The most experienced drivers will also be eligible for club races, going wheel-to-wheel against each other. The races are all overseen by corner workers and professional safety workers. “Safety is first and foremost for us, and we do have a structured format,” says Bannerman. “But we also want to make it a fun, casual experience for our members, where they get as much track time as they want. They don’t have to sign up ahead of time or get scheduled into one time slot.”

The off-track facilities are as exclusive as the road track. The Member’s Pavilion, a 20,000-sq.ft. structure built inside the track, is a contemporary building with massive windows in the lobby for viewing the track outside, and a platform above that offers a 360-degree panorama of the track and scenic vistas of the countryside. The Clubhouse also includes a Member’s Bar & Lounge, upscale restaurant, gym, full-service concierge, valet and laundry services, and business center with wireless services. The facility will have a full-service spa that includes massage, hydro-therapy and other beauty treatments. A suite for overnight stays is also available.

“We realize that many people have limited time, so we’ve built a helipad on the facilities,” says Bannerman. “A member could arrive by helicopter, and we’d have his car warmed up on the track, fluids checked and ready to go. They could put their suit and helmet on and drive for two hours.”

As many novice racers know, driving fast, very fast, can be one of the most exhilarating and relaxing experiences after a stressful business day. But Bannerman says that the spa and other facilities will work out the other kinks. “We’ve set this club up for the entire family, so there are massage rooms for the spouses, and a go-kart track for the kids. We wanted to create an off-track experience that is equally as exciting for the whole family.”

Monticello Motor Club also offers the ultimate concierge service for its members’ prized possessions—their cars. Members have access to climate-controlled storage, full-service care and maintenance, a pro shop and locker rooms. The club will also hold many events during its open season from April onward. “A lot of our members like to take advantage of those events and bring their clients,” says Bannerman. “It’s a great way to experience the club, because everyone gets to feel like a racecar driver for the day.”

The club is also offering a special introductory “Taste of the Track” for $2,500. The full-day introduction to the club includes personal instruction from the top racing coaches in the US, classroom and driving sessions, and full access to the other amenities. “This is a way for people to see what we’re all about,” says Bannerman. “It’s a great way for them to experience what makes this club so special.”
